I thought today’s Blogmas should be a little different. Ever since I moved from Malta to Stirling I have been probably experiencing something new everyday and I wanted to dedicate a blog post to Stirling.
I have been here for a little over 3 months already and boy does time fly! I remember my first week feeling like a lost sheep in such a new country full of green grass and beautiful trees and surrounded by a lake.
Back in September I felt cold and now it is just too too cold where I even don’t feel my nose or lips whilst walking outside in the cold crisp air! Stirling is quite a quiet town and it’s not as big as I thought it would be although I was warned but I love it here!
There’s the cute little town with the Thistles shopping centre with shops like Superdrug, Primark, H&M, Lush, Boots which you will see me go in every time I go there. It is just a bus away from the student accommodation I am living at. I also chose the perfect student housing it is SO CLOSE to the lecture halls … I LOVE IT. It is like a classy hotel with the reception and a lift and a cleaning service. The University of Stirling campus is BEAUTIFUL and MIND BLOWING and so so big … like ten times the size of that one University we have in Malta. Also, the lecturers here are just wonderful in my course, they are helpful and so kind and answer to emails so quickly and we also get our marks in a timely manner unlike Malta’s university which takes a lifetime!
But thank goodness I did not choose an accommodation which was farther away from the university because I like my 10 minute walk to and from lectures especially on a cold day! We also have our own book shop, pharmacy and loads of food shops with our local grocer which is a tiny bit priced but when you’re in a rush for something, it is a great place to go to rather than catching the bus to go and do a shop at Tesco.
And it doesn’t matter that Stirling is a small town as you can simply catch a train and go anywhere that you would like. So far I have only been to Glasgow and Edinburgh but I want to explore more. Of course my studies stops me from doing this but since now I finished my exams and have a few more days until I go back down to Malta for Christmas, I hope to use these last few days left to explore and visit the Christmas Markets in Edinburgh and Glasgow. Next semester I would like to visit St. Andrews, Aberdeen and Dundee and maybe go to an isle of Sky or some other one. Hopefully will get to do that then.
Oh and something else I still have yet to properly experience is SNOW. The one time it did snow was for 5 minutes and I was inside doing my placement. When I went into my placement everywhere was green when I came out everywhere was white. It was something that I had never seen or experienced and it just felt magical! However, I was so gutted I missed it all! Although, it didn’t snow a heavy amount so we couldn’t do snow angels or a snowman, so that was disappointing too.
Ever since then, I have been checking the weather everyday waiting for it to snow and I think if my weather indicator is right today it should snow. I will keep you updated on my social media!!
I have come to visit lots of food venues whilst I have been here like Nandos, Wetherspoons, The Alannwater Cafe – best fish and chip place ever, an Indian place that I forgot the name of, Boozy cow, Kilted Kangaroo which I love and some others! Hope to visit more in the next semester!
Anyways, so yeah I am loving Stirling, it is definitely different from Malta with respect to the air, weather and cleanliness. I love the little town here and have gotten used to life here. However, yes I miss home and my parents’ cooking and my boyfriend and friends and not to forget my cat. Oh that is another disadvantage with Stirling, that there aren’t any cats here!
But I am thankful to be having this experience! And thank you to my mum and dad as without them it wouldn’t be possible!! Thank you for allowing me to take this opportunity, I think I am growing more and learning more about myself. I have also met so many different people from different countries and have made some really good friends here … so yeah I am happy and excited to continue this experience and learn more from it and more about myself!
Thank you for everyone who has read this! And thank you for all the support!!
