MFWA – 27/05/2019
I hope you all are doing well, and having a great week. On Monday, I attended my third show at this year’s Malta Fashion Week.
As you know after each show I come back and share my thoughts on how the day’s shows went, and this blog post is just that! There were a total of three shows from – Gabrielle Fenech to Ocantos from Argentina and finally the shows ended with a show from Parascandalo!
Gabrielle Fenech launched her self-named brand in 2015. Her brand offers, “Beautifully unconventional fashion for audacious and eccentric individuals”. Her pieces take on a classical tailoring style with a hint of glamour and sass. To quote Malta Fashion Week’s website, they describe Gabrielle’s creations as, “easily wearable and feminine, while at the same time bold and empower.”
What is interesting is that Gabrielle’s brand is influenced by cult-societies, history and music and her collections try to tell a story and take its viewers on a journey either through the streets of Valletta or on runways at Fashion Week.
Gabrielle debuted her new collection of 2019 inspired by The Lovers tarot – L’Amoureux.
My thoughts on the show …
I loved Gabrielle’s collection! I especially loved the pieces where you had like a dungaree. I also loved the colours she chose and the designs she went for. She had t-shirts with great designs and they are so wearable. A colour that struck me most was the dark green glitter fabric which I noticed was a key colour through her L’ Amoureux collection! A lot of numbers caught my eyes and these are just a few!

Ocantos from Argentina
Today’s international fashion designer was from Argentina. His name is Eduardo Gonzalez Ocantos who is a lawyer, filmmaker, painter and designer. As you can see a man with many talents! He shared his artwork in different countries in the past ten years such as Italy, France, Montenegro, Mexico, Malta and many others! What is interesting is that he is also working around culture and wants to bring over more Latin American designers in Milan.
To quote an interview he had with La Nacion, taken by Flor Bibas, he said that he does not, “feel like a fashion designer” but he just likes, “to play, experiment with textures and objects.” He likes using emotions and loves expressing himself through his pieces.
My thoughts on the show …
I truly saw the artist in this designer. His pieces were so colourful and just gave me a sense of happiness when looking at them! I loved the pieces which had a bow tie, gave a sense of fun to the outfit too! Here are some pieces that I loved in the show –

Marco Parascandalo who is from Birgu, is well known for being the creative mind behind his self-named fashion brand – Parascandalo. Parascandalo is a local brand that is well known for Marco’s distinctive take on streetwear. The brand has gained so much popularity. I personally loved his show back in 2017 and I still remember that denim jacket that I would have loved to get and add to my personal wardrobe. (Due to finances, Kezia could not haha)
In 2014, Marco took part for the first time at Malta Fashion Week and after the show, everyone wanted to wear his collection, a.k.a. Skandlu! To quote from Malta Fashion Week’s website, “Marco pays special attention to the wearability and durability of his items” and he, “integrates aspects of Maltese culture, politics and environmental issues into his pieces to produce a very modern melange, the ultimate social commentary in motion.” The brand was such a hit that Marco has also gained international recognition.
At this year’s Malta Fashion Week, his show is around his new Spring/Summer 2019 collection entitled, “EYECONIC”. I need to save up and pick out something, as I need a piece of his in my wardrobe this year! I just love his designs, especially since they are wearable in everyday outfits! And, just to add that wearing them I would imagine that they would give me confidence and a sense of cool-ness!
My thoughts on the show …
Parascandalo’s show was AMAZING. He truly surprised us as he did not show one collection but two! We had a peak into his summer as well as winter 2019 collection !! I loved the pieces he created, his Eyeconic Collection was itself ICONIC! The colours, the styles, the patterns and the designs … everything just meshed with each other! Here are some pieces that I absolutely LOVED.

What I also enjoyed about his show was that he collaborated with Oxygyn. They are a Maltese band composed of sibling duo Kurt and Katia. The group’s aim is to share great music with a message; one about the nature of humanity and the society which surrounds it. Check out their social media and definitely go listen to their song – BLINDFOLD!
